The Village of Zermatt

The village of Zermatt is one of the most famous ski resorts and villages in the Alps.
Its tourism history is closely linked with the history of the Matterhorn; the mountain first considered unclimbable due to the steepness of its faces.

Today Zermatt is a well-developed village and resort for both winter and summer activities.

Along with the 350 km of slopes spread over 3 mountains on the Swiss side, the ski area also reaches into Italy in both the Cervinia and Valtournenche valleys.
The descents on the glacier start at 3,800 meters and are open pretty much all year round from the Swiss side (Cervinia shuts a few months a year).
The glacier skiing includes a large snowpark at 3,600m.

Sport Activities

Zermatt offers a number of other activities besides skiing.
In the winter there are two ice rinks, cross-country tracks, walking trails in the forest for snowshoeing as well as ice-climbing and paragliding take-off and landing platforms.
In the summer the ice rinks become 5 tennis courts, and a beach volleyball court, there is also a full-size football field, a well-marked Vita Parcours forest fitness course and a large range of mountain bike and hiking trails.
Please ask us if you’d like any more details of other sports activities in Zermatt.

There are some great events, both sporting and cultural hosted every year.
These include a curling Tournament in January, Gondola Fondue, the Unplugged Festival, and a midsummer marathon. Here are just some of the highlights:
