Caroline George – After spending most of my spare time as a teenager playing and coaching a variety of sports, I studied for a degree in BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Sports Education at the University of Gloucestershire. Post-university I was lucky enough to land a job with travel company Powder Byrne; managing the children’s skiing clubs in the winter and water sports clubs in the summer which I adored. Three years later I decided I had learnt enough following the children in their lessons to take the plunge and take my BASI instructor exams.
In the break between travelling with Powder Byrne and starting with Diamonds I spent a year working in sports development in the UK, improving the provision and opportunities available in my home city.
As I started skiing as a young adult, I will never rival those who were skiing before they could walk, but I clearly remember learning to ski; the laughs, the frustrations and that feeling when some clicks. I believe learning a bit later than most helps me as an instructor – I know how scary it feels to have everyone around you zooming past!
